A photo of someone out looking at Oregon fall foliage. No matter what time of year you visit Newport, there is no shortage of breathtaking nature to take in. Whether you are hoping to spot wildlife like whales or want to surround yourself in nature on area hikes, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy. As late summer fades into early fall, the temperatures aren’t the only sign of the changing seasons. During your stay at the Embarcadero Resort, you are just minutes away from some of the best spots to see the stunning Oregon fall foliage as leaves change.

1. Yaquina Bay State Park

Found near the north end of Yaquina Bay sits a stunning state park waiting for you to explore. Hike the trails through the forest filled with pine and spruce trees. This park is home to the only existing Oregon lighthouse that still has the living quarters attached. Climb the two flights of stairs to the watch room and look out over the leaves changing colors.

2. Siuslaw National Forest

If you are looking for a day trip, drive about an hour to Siuslaw National Forest. This area offers a diverse hiking experience. You can explore sub-alpine meadows, temperate rainforests, coastal headlands, and stunning waterfalls. No matter what trail you choose, you’ll be able to see Mother Nature at work.

3. Area Hiking Trails

There are a number of trailheads just a short distance from our Newport resort. Take your kids leafing along Communications Hill Trail or Salal Hill Trail. You’ll be able to walk along the rocky coastline while seeing the beautiful foliage that only fall can provide.

4. Brian Booth State Park (Beaver Creek)

This natural area’s marshlands and upland forest are the perfect places to take in fall colors as you keep an eye out for wildlife. See if you can spot the otters, beavers, and birds that call Beaver Creek State Natural Area Home. There are five miles of looping trails, ranging from easy to moderate, so this is a perfect area to explore with children of all ages.

5. City Parks

State parks and forests aren’t the only places in Oregon to see the fall colors. Newport is full of beautiful city parks ideal for a picnic lunch with takeout from a local restaurant while enjoying the autumn hues.
