5 Things to Do on a Newport Beach Day

Before deciding what to do during your day on the sand, you need to decide where to go. There are several spots to choose from, all close to our Newport resort. Venture north, and you’ll reach Agate Beach State Park. Going south will have you running into South Beach State Park. There’s also Cobble Beach, part of the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, Beverly Beach State Park, and Ocean Shore State Recreation Area. Nye Beach is one of the most well-known beaches in the area.

Once you know where you’re going, it’s time to turn your attention to what to do! While there’s no shortage of fun to be had at every one of the spots listed above, certain locations are known for being prime spots for certain activities.

  1. Go searching for agates at Beverly Beach, South Beach State Park, or Agate Beach. The best time to go looking for these stones is at low tide.
  2. Another fun low tide activity is tide pooling. Wait for the water to recede before heading to Cobble Beach or Nye Beach to see what sea creatures you can find.
  3. If you want to fly kites, check out Moolack Beach, accessed from Beverly Beach State Park. Because this is a bit of a hidden gem, there’s more room for you to run and get your kite in the air.
  4. Test your skills and try to catch a wave at Agate Beach. This is a year-round favorite, thanks to the consistent breaks and room for beginners and experienced surfers. Rent a board from Ossies Surf Shop, which also offers lessons.
  5. Newport’s beaches are perfect for watching a breathtaking sunset. Bring a blanket to relax on while waiting for the sun to sink below the horizon, or walk along the shoreline.
